Poetry and poets and reaching for the reader

Sun Jul 5, 2009, 9:33 PM
so sometimes I wonder what is so amazing about poetry. sometimes I wonder what catches us in those words. I think about Jon Anderson (reminded by another deviant) how he percieved the work as something to be gotten out and finished. I have never tried to follow in the foot steps of another poet, and never tried to emulate another poet. But there are several that inspire me, more by what they said when I heard them speak than their words writen. Billy Collins, Sherman Alexie, Ted Kooser, and Jon Anderson all struck me in the heart. I wonder if any of my words have ever bit anyone, struck them in the head? I wonder if my words make them cry or laugh?

Thanks for the :+devwatch:. By the way you worded your reply on my news article, I have to ask, did you take classes from Jon or had you just read those hints before?

Hello Toilet

*poisonedrose - thanks brett <£...ahhh brit love
just had him at a seminar in the early 80's at UA I was by far the youngest attendant, and by far the most outspoken at the seminar. It was one day held some place in Tuscon, there was a class field trip to UA and I was asked which seminar I wanted to attend and I picked Jon's from the picture on the bulletin, thought this guy must be cool.
